Saena Chakkar is a PhD candidate at the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) at the School of Business and Economics. Under supervision of Prof. Frank Cörvers, Prof. Wendy Smits and Dr. Adrian Lerche, she works on a dissertation on the role of occupational licencing in the shaping of the cross-border careers of foreign degree holders.
She is part of the interdisciplinary project LIMES Maastricht - the Hardening and Softening of Borders in Europe, funded by European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant.
Her research interests include the study of the politics of recognition, the economics of education and cross-border labour market careers.
Saena holds a M.Sc. Public Management and Public Policy from the University of Leuven (KUL) and a B.A and M.Sc. in Social and Economic Sciences from the University of Antwerp (UA).
