Career History
Monica Claes is professor of European and Comparative Constitutional Law at the Law Faculty of Maastricht University.
Monica’s main areas of interest are European fundamental rights law, the relationship between European and national constitutional law, the development of a European constitutional space, common constitutional principles and the concept of national constitutional identity.
Monica is co-director of the Maastricht Centre for European Law. She is co-editor-in-chief of the European Constitutional Law Review (EuConst)
Monica teaches Advanced European Law and European Fundamental Rights Law at Maastricht Faculty of Law.
She studied law at KULeuven and at the College of Europe. She hold a PhD degree from Maastricht University.
